Do you like helping people or have a passion for action sports?
If so then volunteering with Ability Skateboarding & Action Sports is for you. Volunteers are key components to help keep our participants safe, motivated and gnarly!
Volunteer With Us!
Skateboarding Volunteer Role:
The volunteer will physically ensure the safety of the participant they are partnered with that is learning to skateboard. To ensure safety, volunteers may need to physically hold/spot participants hands, arms, shoulders and hips if needed while the participant is riding the skateboard. Keep in mind every participant will have varying disabilities and you will be assisted by the lead coach. The coach will provide the skateboarding instruction to volunteers and participants. In addition you will provide encouragement and motivation as needed.
You will be assigned to a participant once you arrive at the program. We will not know the skill of each participant at the beginning of the program unless they are a returning participant. The Lead Coach will assess and create a plan for volunteers and participants within the first few minutes of the clinic beginning. Changes to assignments may be made to find the best fit for participants and volunteers. Please inform the Lead Skate Coach if you have concerns while volunteering at a skateboard clinic.
NOTE:
Being able to help support another person’s body weight is a key ability for our volunteer needs unless assigned to more administrative tasks. (ex. signing participants in, sizing helmets, providing drinks etc.) Unless you are very athletic, you may want to consider volunteering.
